Stay Home With Your Kids Day
6th annual event celebrated this month.

"Stay Home with Your Kids Day" is Monday August 19, 2002. Stay Home With Your Kids Day is sponsored by WAHM.com: The Online Magazine for Work-at-Home Moms. The purpose of the day is to celebrate, encourage and support those parents who have chosen to be home with their children.

Cheryl Demas, publisher of the WAHM.com website, and the author of "The Work-at-Home Mom’s Guide to Home Business" says "If you’re thinking about leaving the traditional workplace, 'Stay Home with Your Kids Day' is the perfect opportunity to take a vacation day and give serious thought to making the change. Leaving your job may not be an easy decision, but if your heart aches every time you drive away from the daycare center in the morning, it might be time to look at other options." And there are many options for parents today, aside from working full-time outside the home. Many parents are finding that working from home is the perfect solution to their work/home dilemma. The WAHM.com website provides a community for work-at-home moms, as well as telecommuting job listings, business opportunities, and information for avoiding work-at-home scams. As Demas states, "If we can have a day to take our children to work, we should be able to devote one day to staying home with our children. While we realize that not all parents can or wish to be home full-time with their kids, WAHM.com is dedicated to giving advice and support to those who have found a way to make it work. Give it a try, ‘Mom’ can be the best job description you’ve ever had."

Chiropractic Care For The Family
Alternative approach to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

"Chiropractic is defined as the science of a physician who cares for people without drugs or surgery ... a doctor who is concerned with the structures of the human frame and how it relates to the function of the human organism, and who teaches patients how to maintain healthy bodily function," says Dr. Chad Chisholm of the Chisholm Chiropractic Center in Raleigh. Traditional/manual adjustments involve the use of the hands to move the spine through gentle force, twisting, and rotational moves. Dr. Kathryn Lyons of Apex Village Chiropractic uses the Atlas Orthogonal chiropractic technique. Instead of hands-on manipulation, she utilizes an instrument to adjust only the atlas bone (the first bone in the spine) and concentrate mainly on the cervical spine or upper neck. Both options are painless.

Small areas of subluxation (segments not functioning at 100%) can cause a decrease in the activity of the nerves that run our body, causing a 'short circuit' to organs. Common signs that a child may need to consult a chiropractor include chronic crying, colic, and ear infections. "Each of these are treated successfully every day all over the world by chiropractors," says Chisholm. Other signs which may indicate spinal misalignment include bed wetting, trouble sleeping, irritability, pain, headaches, or reading disability. Even very young children are 'adjustable,' with specific gentle techniques designed for infants. "A normal vaginal delivery can be traumatic to an infant's head and neck area," says Lyons. Children average 2500 falls by the time they are five, and chiropractic checkups can help them insure proper growth patterns by catching problems in early stages. Older, more active children are usually seen for sprains, muscle strains, or sports-related injuries.

Why chose chiropractic versus a trip to a traditional physician? "Chiropractic treatment will focus on nervous system disturbances and overall nutritional factors to diagnose the malfunction of the body and work towards correcting the problem," says Chisholm. "The medical approach will also diagnose and commonly use medication which may correct certain problems but also only treat the symptoms."

"Moving the spine corrects many problems naturally," adds Lyons. No drugs, no needles, no side effects. "I also encourage parents to look at their child's diet and possible food allergies before opting to take medications," she concludes. Investigate many options when you choose how your family's healthcare will be administered. There are natural and non-prescriptive options available. Don't settle for treatments you may not agree with. Chisholm says, "Explore the many holistic healthcare providers, then decide."
